Oadby Town 3 Shepshed Dynamo 1

This final pre season friendly was an entertaining affair and not too much emphasis should be placed on the final result as the home side fielded two different teams – one in each half – and only clinched victory in the final minutes as a tiring Shepshed relied on just fourteen players in the whole match.

Shepshed were forced into a last minute change when Liam Fitzpatrick broke down in the pre match warm up and Justin Jenkins donned the No11 shirt. It was though, the central attacking role that he filled and, after giving the Dynamo the lead in the 5th minute with a delightful headed goal, led the line extremely well.

The first Oadby team contained a fair few youngsters and they settled into some attractive football. Although they controlled the midfield they were not really penetrating the Dynamo defence. However Oadby were well prepared to try some attempts from a distance which Dynamo’s debutant keeper Scott Lowe watched carefully as his goal was peppered.
After all the long range efforts the Town equalized on 38 minutes when Lowe and Oadby’s Kris Stevenson contested a loose ball in the six yard box the latter getting the final touch to net.

Shepshed made three substitutions at the break, mainly to firm up the centre midfield, and began to have the better of the play but were far from dominating affairs.

On the hour mark Oadby, somewhat against the run of play, took the lead when the highly experienced ex-City player, Jon Stevenson, curled a free kick from just outside the left of the penalty area through the Dynamo defence and into the far top corner of Lowe’s net.

Shepshed were almost on level terms inside a minute when Kieron Bradshaw was unlucky not to score when he broke through on the left and tried to curl the ball into the far top corner of the Oadby net, the Town keeper just tipping the shot round the post.

Shepshed were now pushing hard and Kieron Davies was creating havoc with his speedy bursts down the right wing and some excellent balls into Jenkins and Bradshaw, however the Dynamo were to lose Davies with some ten minutes left with a thigh strain.

Oadby clinched the victory in the 85th minute when Ollie Brownhill dribbled his way into the penalty area past two tired and half-hearted tackles, to place the ball in the back of the net.
