Shepshed Dynamo went out of the new Doodson Sport Cup at the first hurdle losing by to Stamford AFC, who repeated the 3-0 score line they had inflict

John Ramshaw gave three players their first outing in the starting XI. Karl Whymark, Lewis Williamson and Luke Green taking the total of players used so far this season to thirty three.

What the new look side did not want was an early set back., but a goal within the first 90 seconds for the visitors set the tone of the evening with Shepshed chasing the game from the off.

Having blocked Harry Deane’s shot, Dynamo’s defence failed to clear, and as the ball was played back into the danger area, the re-called keeper, James Elliot failed to gain any purchase on his punch, leaving Gary King to fire home from six yards.

Elliot made up for the error, saving King´s 15th minute penalty, but could do little to prevent the striker atoning for the miss as the Stamford No9 lashed the ball past the keeper from the angle of the six yard area eight minutes before the interval.

Youthful Dynamo struggled to break down Stamford’s tight defending or even create much in front of goal for the vast majority of the second half. The same could be said for Stamford but the visitors with a two goal cushion seemed content to settle for that.

In the 83rd minute Shepshed did get the ball in the net. Unfortunately though it was at their own end, skipper Iain Screaton finishing up with the red face, as Dynamo’s former manager Dave Frecklington watched on from the visitor’s bench.

Shepshed:- Elliott, Carter, Green, North, Screaton, Rennalls (Hines 42) Whymark, Williamson (Pownall 67), Chaplin (Durrant 54), Gamble, Bayley. Subs not used Law, Duffy. Attendance 107.
