SHEPSHED DYNAMO 2 BRIGG TOWN 3
Shepshed Dynamo could count themselves a little unlucky not to get some reward as they finished on the wrong end of a five goal scoreline which was a repeat of the result back in August at Brigg.
Shepshed leveled the scores in the 19th minute when, after good work down the right, Leighton Simmonds, making his debut for the Dynamo, crossed the ball across the face of the goal. Steve Chaplin, distracted keeper Tom Woodhead, allowing the ball to run to a completely unmarked Rob Mulonga at the far post who just had to tap the ball home.
As the half wore on Shepshed began to play with far more confidence than in recent games and the front three of Mulonga, Chaplin and Simmonds were being ably supported by Kieran Davies and Max Pembleton in midfield. Brigg were however far from playing second fiddle, Darren Mansaram looking quite capable of finding the net with his strong snap shots and Mulready proving a nuisance as well. Half time came though with no addition to the scoreline.
Brigg started the second half strongly and just when Shepshed looked to have weathered the storm the Town regained the lead on 58 minutes when Gregg Archer stabbed home as the ball rebounded off a Shepshed defender on the goal line.
For a time the confidence seemed to drain away from the Dynamo but a rally saw Chaplin set David Boafo up with a chance from eight yards out. The Dynamo No2 however showed why he plays full back by blazing the golden opportunity over the bar. An unmarked Simon Hore then headed a Davies corner just wide of the post when he should have done better.
In the 80th minute Shepshed deservedly equalized. Chaplin sent Davies racing away down the right flank and when the cross came it was superbly met by an unmarked Mulonga at the far post who headed home.
Shepshed looked to have won a point which would have taken them off the bottom of the table but with three minutes left disaster struck leaving keeper James Martin, who had given a 100% performance between the sticks, almost in tears. As the ball was played into the goalmouth, Martin who was on the edge of his six yard box and under some pressure, looked to have gathered the ball safely. Inexplicably he lost possession and the ball dropped straight at the feet of Mulready, who despite the last ditch efforts of Iain Screaton, managed to push the ball over the line for what proved to be the winner.
