SHEPSHED DYNAMO 2 DESBOROUGH TOWN 3
Shepshed Dynamo produced a real Jekyll & Hyde performance when they played host to Desborough Town in the United Counties League Premier Division on Tuesday night at the Dovecote, losing by three goals to two after twice leading, thus handing the Town all
Steve Chaplin had a glorious chance to add to the scoreline but just failed to get to a smart cross into the six yard box by Mulonga.
Minutes later a deep cross into the penalty area by Bradshaw saw Town keeper Richard Lavin pluck the ball off the head of Chaplin.
Shepshed continued to hold sway, bossing the midfield, and it was twenty minutes before the visitors mounted a real attack. Then they gained three corners in the space of two minutes. On the half hour a Desborough free kick into the six yard box was headed just over by Ben Williams when he really should have tested Dynamo custodian Scott Low.
Back to the other end and a free kick into the penalty area by Liam Fitzpatrick was only half cleared and fell to Martin who wastefully fired over. With the half drawing to a close Fitzpatrick twice tested the keeper inside thirty seconds with efforts that deserved better. Come the break however the scoreline remained at 1-nil and Shepshed were to rue the lack of a final ball to polish off their moves.
Two minutes into the second half and Rob McCormick missed a golden chance. A free kick by Fitzpatrick into the six yard box was deflected to McCormick at the far post. How he managed to shoot across the goal from a yard out and past the far post only he knows.
The miss had dire consequences three minutes later when the Town equalized. A neat passing movement down the Shepshed left ended with Joey Wright breaking through to shoot past Low, as he advanced, into the net.
Desborough now had their tails up and started to play with a confidence not shown earlier and importantly began to dominate the midfield. However in the 65th minute Shepshed regained the lead. Mulonga found space on the left flank and crossed to Chaplin whose close range header hit the bar, but fortunately rebounded straight to him to bundle the ball over the line.
Somewhat to the amazement of the Shepshed supporters Mulonga, who had been a constant thorn in visitors’ side, was immediately substituted with Kieran Davies replacing him. In the 77th minute Shepshed then lost the services through injury of McCormick at the back and within two minutes Desborough equalized again. The Town’s Jack Burrows found himself completely unmarked in the centre, as they swept downfield, and gave Low no chance from some 15 yards out.
Two minutes later, with Shepshed now in total disarray, Michael Bryne broke through a non existent midfield to net a third, and winning, goal. Thereafter Shepshed never looked like rescuing a point.
