ROMULUS 2 SHEPSHED DYNAMO 2

Shepshed showed two changes from Friday night’s game against Stamford with Tom Maddison replacing Rob Mulonga and Ndricim Krasniqui in for the injured skipper Iain Screaton.

Shepshed started brightly and after a long throw was cleared Krasniqui volleyed wide. An early break came after five minutes when after a poor clearance by both the goal keeper and centre half, O’Connor pounced on a loose ball and pushed the ball past the on rushing keeper and lost his footing. The linesman deemed this a penalty and up stepped Tom Maddison to smash the ball high to the goal keeper’s right.
In the eighth minute a free kick from Romulus full back Lee was just over the bar. On eleven minutes from a well worked move, the impressive Shaun Martin hit a superb 25 yard half volley, tipped over by the keeper at full stretch. In the fifteenth minute a good run from danger man James Reid shot straight at Martin. Five minutes later and another strong run from Reid ended with the ball just wide. Shepshed were passing the ball nicely at this stage and Martin headed down for O’Connor to smash a 20 yard volley against the bar. After twenty five minutes Romulus thought they had equalized but an offside flag denied them. But in the next minute a long ball over the top was latched on to once again by Reid who finished smartly. Just a minute later Romulus should have scored again but Agbonlahor somehow managed to shoot wide. After half an hour, Ashley Jackson dribbled passed two defenders but shot just wide of the far post. Three minutes from half time Reid once again causing problems with his pace put in a cross the flashed across the six yard box. Half time Romulus 1 Shepshed 1.
Shepshed started the second half slowly, Krasniqui broke from mid-field but shot poorly. After fifty two minutes , a good save by James Martin saw him push the ball out but Agbonlahor netted the rebound only to be denied once again by the linesman’s flag. On the hour Reid totally unmarked at the far post managed to make a complete mess of a simple tap in and the ball was scrambled clear. Only two minutes later a long throw in was not properly cleared and the ball fell once again to Reid who this time made no mistake from ten yards. With fifteen minutes remaining a good run from O’Connor saw him delay his pass too long and the chance was lost. A bad tackle on David Boafo saw Cameron Lee receive the first booking of the afternoon . Boafo had to be replaced by Jacob Sturgess. Just five minutes later obstruction once again by Lee saw him receive his second yellow leaving Romulus to play with ten men for the last five minutes. Shepshed huffed and puffed with a couple of corners cleared easily. Then with two minutes to go from another corner the ball bounced kindly for Leighton Simmonds (Mulonga!) to thrash the ball home. One minute in to injury time Simmonds earned another corner but the on rushing Martin headed over from six yards. After Quorn were defeated at home by Loughborough, Shepshed move off the bottom of the table.
Shepshed. Martin, Boafo (Sturgess) Jenkins, White, Brewer, Hore, Martin, Maddison, Chaplin, O’Connor, Krasniqui (Simmonds)
