Shepshed Dynamo 0-0 Coventry United
All square in crunch clash!
By Lucas Monk
Shepshed Dynamo laboured to a goalless draw in a controversial clash with Coventry United.
Clear-cut chances were few and reckless fouls frequent in this match at The Dovecote, which saw United finish with 10 men.
Damion Beckford-Quailey made two changes to the side that defeated Loughborough University in midweek.
New signing Dexter Morris-Clarke made his debut, replacing Karl Whymark in central midfield. Celson Patrocinio started on the wing instead of Josh Thomas.
The early exchanges were tepid. Gift Mussa and Alex Cairns fired wayward efforts well wide of the mark. Both sides toiled, but neither created.
The match threatened to spark into life midway through the first half. Dynamo made a couple of enterprising forays forward. Pearson Mwanyongo curled a shot wide from range. Matt Melbourne then glanced a diving header over the crossbar.
A clear opportunity to open the scoring continued to elude both sides.
That was until shortly after the break, when Jake Betts sent a booming header against the crossbar from Mwanyongo's corner in the 48th minute.
A scramble ensued, but Melbourne's attempts to force the ball over the line proved fruitless.
Nonetheless, he continued to give his all for Shepshed. A few minutes thereafter he spun and sent a stinging shot into the palms of away 'keeper Brendon Bunn.
It was then the turn of the visitors to hit the bar. Kai Williams burst through and shot, but Dynamo shot-stopper Brandon Ganley helped his effort onto the aluminium.
This rather listless contest would end in controversy.
Having already received a yellow card, Williams made a late challenge on Ganley with full-time approaching.
In pain, the Shepshed goalkeeper writhed on the ground. The referee sent Williams off.
After the match had restarted, its remainder passed without event. respectable clean sheet. They will now look forward to Tuesday's tough trip to fellow promotion contenders Sporting Khalsa.
