Shepshed Dynamo 0 Nantwich Town 1
Shepshed Dynamo's FA Emirates Cup campaign ended at the 2nd Qualifying Round stage. At the hands of Nantwich Town by a solitary goal fourteen minutes from the end of the game,
The Dabbers are two leagues above Dynamo and to any neutral visiting The Dovecote Stadium on Saturday they wouldn't have seen the difference in status between the two sides.
Shepshed certainly had the majority of the play in the first half and unlike in recent league games they were unable to convert the numerous chances and having being reduced to ten men by a dubious decision on sixty minutes were worthy of a replay.
Shepshed were undeterred by the fact they were taking on somebody from two divisions above them and like most league games this season hit the ground running.
Shay Brennan had two good chances in the first five minutes wide in the first and then forcing a good save from Kryatian Burzynski on five minutes.
Burzynski was called into action again two minutes later saving from Liam Hurst. Before the visitors had their first chance of the game on eight minutes Shane Antcliffe making his debut in Dynamo's goal saving from Matthew Bell.
Liam Read then fired into the side netting on ten minutes.
Nantwich had their best spell of the first half with Ryan Brooke firing straight at Antclffe on twelve minutes and Harry Clayton going close a minute later.
Hurst went close with a free kick on sixteen minutes and Josh Hill with a speculative lob from his own half just clearing Nantwich's bar.
Nantwich had a shout for a penalty on twenty seven minutes when Harry Clayton looked as if he was brought down in the box but the referee gave Shepshed a free kick for handball.
Michael Reeve looked as if he had put Shepshed in the lead on thirty one minutes a mistake from Burzynski left The Dabbers exposed Reeves lob bounced just in front of the open goal with Brennan unable to reach the bouncing ball as it went forlornly over the crossbar.
Burzynski redeemed himself a minute later punching clear Hurst free kick.
Reeves went close twice for Shepshed before the break firing over on thirty five minutes and Burzynski saving in injury time. As the teams went into the break even.
Dave Cooke must have had stern words with the visitors at half time as they came out in the second half a different team and asserted themselves into the game.
Casper Hughes had the perfect opportunity on fifty minutes but his effort was high and wide. Four minutes later and Ryan Brooke also saw his effort go over the bar.
On fifty six minutes Read made a good burst down the left hand side his cross was agonisingly to far for Hurst to latch onto.
The game took an unfortunate twist for Shepshed on sixty minutes Jordan Levi Davies was en route to the Dynamo goal although veering wide and captain Jake Betts was covering Josh Hill brought down Davies and was deemed the last man where the referee couldn't wait to hand out a harsh red card.
With Dynamo down ten men Nantwich looked to pile on the pressure Hughes free kick from the resultant free kick going wide on sixty one minutes.
Shepshed seemed to have stemmed the flow but on seventy minutes The Dabbers applied pressure again Antcliffe saving from Hughes and again two minutes later from substitute Steve Jones. A minute later Hughes fired over.
Stuart Mcnaught went close for Shepshed on seventy five minutes.
But a minute later what was to be the decisive goal in the tie occurred. Jones cut in from the left hand side and his shot curled in off the right hand post with which Antcliffe could only watch go by.
Dynamo never gave up Luke Richards on as substitute burst through the middle on seventy nine minutes but his shot was saved comfortably by Burzynaki. Nantwich replied but Hall's effort was wide.
Karl Whymark nearly drew the tie level on eighty three minutes but Burxynski was able to punch clear.
Shepshed deserved something out of the game but it wasn't to be their day as Richards effort was tipped over in injury time and Burzynski saving from Hurst as the game came to a close.
Nantwich held out and booked their place in the 3rd Qualifying Round.
Shepshed Dynamo can hold their heads high from this game taking on a side two leagues above them and more than matching them. Even being reduced to ten men under a controversial decision they still deserved another shot at Nantwich in the form of a replay but their usual clinical finishing evaded them on the day to deny them another chance.
Shepshed now move onto Polymac League Cup action at home to 3rd placed Coventry United on Tuesday evening before current League leaders Coleshill Town are the visitors Saturday afternoon.
