Dear SRFC VP,
All three senior sides were in home action last weekend. The 1st XV had what looked on paper the toughest task as they hosted the last team to beat them at home in the league, Devizes. Having only lost once in league and cup this season the visitors were in good form coming into the game and I am sure would have been harbouring hopes of another win at Sherborne. However, Sherborne made no mistakes this year and played some very good rugby as they sent The Saddlebacks home to Wiltshire following a sound 39-10 victory. The win means not only that Sherborne retain their 100% record but also that there is now only one team in the league, other than Sherborne, that has lost less than two games. In addition a comfortable win like this will help Sherborne's confidence for the tricky cup semi-final to come at Devizes on 18th November.
Whilst the 1st XV were back to top form for their game the 2nd XV continued where they left off as they demolished bottom side, Oakmedians 2nds, by 69-0. Oaks are bottom of the table and winless so far this season, as were Sherborne 2nds in the league above last season, but full credit to them for fulfilling the fixture and continuing to try to give of their best throughout. Hopefully their determination will be rewarded with a win soon. The win keeps Sherborne's 100% record intact and sees them holding on to second spot in the league behind Puddletown by courtesy of the fact that Puddletown have picked up the bonus point in all seven games this season whilst Sherborne have missed out once.
On Sunday the Colts welcomed their counterparts for the D&W Colts Plate semi-final. I'm not sure who decides what teams go into the cup, bowl and plate, possibly it links back to last season's results, but with Sherborne unbeaten this season it always looked like they would prove to be to strong for the visitors. Whilst Swans played with great determination and endeavour they eventually found the hosts too strong as Sherborne ran out, in the end, comfortable winners by the margin of 43-12 and in so doing booked their place in their cup final for this season.
This weekend sees all three senior sides on the road again.
On Saturday the 1st XV travel to Frome for their Southern Counties league match. The hosts sit mid table and have lost their last two league matches. However, Frome have proved to be a tough nut to crack several times in recent meetings and will, no doubt, prove to be so again this time around. This one kicks off at 14:30 and the post code for travelling supporters is BA11 2NA.
Also on Saturday the 2nd XV play the first of what looks to be three very tough games as they play third placed Salisbury 3rd XV in the league. The visit to Salisbury will provide the Sherborne side with a lot more to think about than they have had to so far this season and with a cup semi-final and a visit from Puddletown to come in the following two weeks the intensity is going to pick up considerably. The Salisbury match also kicks off at 14:30 and the postcode is SP1 3SA for those intending to travel to support.
Now that we are into November can I remind those of you reading this who have not paid subscriptions for the current season that they are now more than due. I'll drop a reminder and details of how to pay to those who are outstanding according to me in the next week or so.
