Dear SRFC VP,
The snow and ice ensured that there was no rugby involving Sherborne's senior sides last weekend.
Good to see Will Carrick-Smith on the score sheet for Bedford and Tom Lawday snatching victory at the last minute for Cornish Pirates in their home win over Doncaster. Disappointing for Tom James who had endured an eight hour coach trip from Doncaster to Penzance only to see his former SRFC Colts colleague spoil the party at the last minute.
Hopefully, all three senior Sherborne sides will get some rugby this weekend. The 1st and 2nd XVs both have tricky looking home league fixtures on Saturday but will both be hopeful of picking up the points. The 1st XV entertain Frome whilst the 2nd XV host Salisbury 3rds.
Frome's form has not been great this season. However, they went down narrowly, 31-25, last time out at Marlborough. If they bring that form to Sherborne on Saturday then they will be a tough nut to crack. In the other fixture Salisbury sit third in the table, whilst Sherborne are still clear leaders they will need to respect their visitors this week.
As far as I know both games kick off at 14:30 so if you are going up to the club aim for that time. No doubt the Internationals will be shown in the bar.
On Sunday the Colts face a tough test as they travel to Trowbridge for their Merit table fixture. A win at Trowbridge at any level is never easy to obtain and a loss here would not be disastrous, other than ending the season long unbeaten run that is, but a win would put them in a very strong position for the final three fixtures of the competition. Kick off for this one is 14:00 and if anyone can get up to Trowbridge some support would be very welcome.
Many thanks to those of you who have replied to accept the club's invitation to the buffet on 6th April, hopefully I will get a few more accepting the invitation in the next few days.
Finally, I forgot to mention that Colt, Will Morris, was one of only two Dorset & Wilts Colts selected for the South West under 18 team for the recent Divisional competitions. Well done to him on this achievement.
