Sherwood Wolf Hunt Academy: 2020 Vision
Sherwood Wolf Hunt RLFC, based at Debdale Park in Mansfield Woodhouse have big plans for its newly formed Junior Academy. The club, is to provide outstanding opportunities in junior rugby to all age groups, through their affiliation with the Midlands Junior Rugby League.

The Junior Academy will be launched in early May and will initially play touch and tag rugby as well as other fun sports activities. The Junior Academy will have a formal Under 13s team playing in the Midlands Merit League against the likes of Nottingham Outlaws, North Derbyshire Chargers and further afield in Leicester, Birmingham and Coventry.

Junior Section Manager Glen Holt, who is a parent and coach, will lead the Under 13s side alongside young Scotland International Luke Waters, who has come through the ranks at Wolf Hunt., Luke has already become Scotland Under 19s Player of the Year 2015 and signed professional forms at Featherstone Rovers RLFC.

Luke, who is studying Sports at Headingley Carnegie Stadium (Leeds Becket University) will assist Glen as part of his course and adds the sports science to the rugby league and this Outstanding Opportunity for our youngsters. Glen Holt, an experienced RL player since 1895 commented.

This is an exciting time for the Wolf Hunt and for our youngsters.

We aim to provide outstanding coaching, numerous opportunities to meet other young players and most importantly, lots of fun and enjoyment here at Debdale Park, an outstanding facility for summer rugby.
It’s all about enjoying the game and learning.’.

‘Having Luke Walters involved ensures that our young players see that they too, can play high level rugby league now and in the future. It is possible to rise up the ranks with the right attitude and great coaching.’.

Wolf Hunt Chair Richard Tempest-Mitchell, a parent and secondary school teacher, wants the Junior Academy to thrive as quickly and successfully as the adult section.

‘This is about our children having lots of fun, playing the exciting game of rugby league, developing skills and qualities both on and off the field. Qualities and skills, such as team work, respect, patience and the ability to win, lose and learn with understanding are as important as the rugby.

‘Rugby is a great leveller and teaches lots of life lessons whilst giving lots of FUN’, he added.

The Club intend to run an Senior Academy Section which will nurture our 16, 17 and 18 years olds as they move into adult rugby playing with more experienced players. This will ensure that the whole club is sustainable into the 2020s.

‘We have a wonderful opportunity to ensure all of our children and young people enjoy learning, gain great skills and qualities and look forward to putting on an adult Super League or England shirt in ten year’s time.

Approximately 18% of players, playing RL at the age of 16 make it to Super League clubs. We intend to ensure that includes young players from the Sherwood Forest and surrounding area. That, is our 2020 Vision.

All age groups, boys and girls, are welcome, starting in early May. The Wolf Hunt will be running SWHooSHSC our Summer Holiday Sports Camp during the summer holidays. Full details will follow.

The Rugby Football League will be assisting with Embed the Pathway Training for all coaches and the club will soon become an England Rugby League Development Club. The club will have fully trained First Aid and Safeguarding Officers who currently work in NHS Children’s Services and Safeguarding roles.
