Wigan Amateur League Round Up

Daten 3rds newcomers to the League faced Winstanley Warriors Res in David Wilson Division Two and after a rousing contest came from behind to win 3-2. Daten got an early lead when Daryl Brough latched onto a free kick to force the ball home after just three minutes. The home side held the lead until the break with Warriors playing a lot of god football but no fire power. The second half saw Warriors draw level, wehen Ant Baker fired home an unstoppable shot from 30 yards, Mi9nutes later it was 2-1 to the visitors when Joe Barker headed home a corner. Jason Cartwright in the Daten goal was having a blinder and made a couple of good saves from John Horrobin as Warriors threatened to get away. On the hour it was level gain when Cameron Williams nonchalantly lobed the Warriors keeper to make it 2-2. As time ran out both sides chased the winner and it fell to that man Brough whose shot was deflected home by a defender.
It's all change at the top of the table as leaders Sutton Junction crashed 2-1 at Whelley whose goals came from Brad Seddon and Jay Clark with Damian Owen netting for Junction. New leaders are Black Bull who edged out Punchbowl 2-1 as Danny Foster and Dave Smith both scored and Chris Greeley ex Atherton Royal replied for the visitors. Hag Fold move into third spot after beating The Village Inn by the odd goal in three thanks to a brace from Shane Sargent with Steve Birchall getting Village's effort. Atherleigh United ended Hindley Town Res good run with a 4-1 score line while Ashton Villa won their first league game of the season 4-2 at Pemberton Res.
The match of the day in the Garswood Trophies Premier Division saw leaders Winstanley St Aidans retain their 100% record beating second placed Newburgh Harrock United 3-0. Matt McCoy opened the scoring and then added number two before Josh Peet sewed it all up with a late goal. Bickerstaffe won 4-2 at St Judes with Paul Welsh for Bickerstafe and Craig Scriven for the Saints getting two apiece. Standish St Wilfs edged out Wigan Rovers 2-1 thanks to goals from Jon Hook and Jordan Patton with Ryan Puckering replying for Rovers. Pemberton won 4-2 at Shevington with a couple of goals from Alex Mafi. Ormskirk Town are flying at present beating Ince Central 3-0 with that ace marksman Matty Ward grabbing two and ex Bickerstaffe man Will Lamb getting the other. Hindley Town also had a 3-0 victory at Gidlow Athletic.
Digmoor stay top of McHale Baker Wills & Trusts Division One after outpointing Winstanley Warriors 4-3, Dave Barton headed the home side in front but Joe Heaton levelled matters. Barton then made it 2-1 at the break. The second half saw Alex Stoddern make it 3-1 but back came Warriors to equalise through Barker and Kie Smith. As time ran out Chris Hudson fired in Digmoor's winner. Goose Green United edged out bottom side Atherton Royal 3-2 with Mark Logan on target twice, Astley & Tyldesley beat Bickerstaffe Res 2-0 at Hall Lane with go0als from Dan Massey and Chris Hart. Higher Ince and AFC Scholes shared the spoils 3-3 as Chris Docherty with two and Jamie Benson scored for Ince with Chris Demings, Paul Mawdsley and Nick Kenny netting for the visitors who now occupy third spot in the table. Hurlston Hall picked up three points in a 2-0 win at Standish St Wilfs Res thanks to goals from Dennis Lartey and Robbie Knowles.AFC Tyldesley found a new lease of life as they thrashed Leigh Foundry 6-1.
Sutton Junction Res the top dogs in the Franchise Specialist Division Three won in fine style beating Wigan Rovers Res 6-3 as David Wilson and Dave Jacks got two each, Ant Clowes and Danny Wilcock getting the others. Rovers marksmen were Ste Lees, Tony Roberts and Louis Hudson. HMP Hindley were made to work hard by Daten 4th but a second half goal from Hindley's Steve Austin gave them the points.. Abram moved into third place with a 5-0 thrashing of bottom side Plough and Harrow with goals from Josh Anam, T J Brown, Ryan Jenkinson, Alex Holden and Liam Bilski. Billinge Community got a much needed win 3-1 at Astley & Tyldesley Res. Gidlow Athletic Res edged out Golborne Parkside thanks to a solitary goal from Daren Halliwell. Former leaders Mitch FC Res have lost their way of late, they could only draw 2-2 with Ormskirk as Jay Hornsby got both Mitch goals and Ramon McHugh and Steve Dooley scored for Ormskirk.
The League lost another club this week when Newburgh Harrock Reserves folded.
