Shipton U15 B manage to halt the run of batting collapses but fall short of a good Great Tew total.

Shipton were put in on a dry pitch, (freshly prepared by Matt Barnes) by Tew, who lost their openers early to some tight bowling. A great catch by Jack Wilson fielding at square leg, offer a bumper from Luke, set the tone for some excellent early fielding, with everyone on their game with no easy runs conceded. The Tew top order weren't allowed to settle and after Jacks great catch, Archie Bramwell came on first change, and helped himself to a couple of quick wickets.

With Max at the other end, tempting the batters, and taking a 3-fer, Shipton got through to 6 wickets down just after the halfway point for 62 runs conceded, brought about by some good fielding and excellent catching. Special mention to Max for taking a really sharp catch low down off Luke's pace. However, some inconsistent fielding started to creep in coupled with an determined 60 run partnership by batters 8 & 9, who also started to hit gaps on a very fast outfield. This meant Tew were able to push on to a very creditable 122-7.

A quick interval brought Shiptons opening pair to the crease. Max managed to avoid the bad luck of recent weeks and had played himself in against the opening bowlers, when a change to spin, brought about the breakthrough. A very accurate leg spinner managed to get his googly working and Max didn't pick it as it went through his guard and hit leg stump.

The spinner put the breaks on Shipton, as they looked to rebuild; although Aidan brought up his 3rd consecutive score of 50, by taking him on and sweeping him into the trees at midwicket for his second big six of his innings . After Aidan retired on 54 not out, the change in bowlers, started to see the ball sticking in the pitch which led to Shipton players playing too early on the shot. This cost Shipton 3 wickets, with the ball popping up for catches at mid-off and mid-on. Archie Bramwell, was out this way, just as he was start to look comfortable, with one that held up on him.

Shipton batters continued to push on through fading light struggling to find the gaps on a slowing wicket. The run rate dropped off, as some good fielding choked off the chances to score. Despite a late flurry from Jake ( which saw one lovely cover drive beat the fielder for a 4), Shipton couldn't get going, and eventually ran out of overs; falling short of the Tew total by around 30 runs.

Glad to say though I think we batted much more consistently, playing straighter and looking more confident. A much improved batting performance from the previous week.

Once again, thank you to Guy for taking on umpiring duties and for Kim for making drinks and providing biscuits again, and tidying up too. If anyone would like to bring along a packet or two next time, that would be great.
