Timons Boost for Town
Shirebrook Town received a massive boost two weeks ahead of the new season with the signing of experienced central defender Chris Timons yesterday.
Town beat off interest from several local clubs for the in-demand 37-year-old, and manager Gary Castledine said, “Chris Timons is a great signing for the club. He’ll bring leadership to the side.”
Shirebrook-born Timons’ former clubs include Mansfield Town, Halifax Town, Chesterfield, Leyton Orient, Stafford Rangers, Gainsborough Trinity, Altrincham, Stalybridge Celtic, Ilkeston Town and Harrogate Town.
In September 2007, he was appointed caretaker manager of Hucknall Town following the resignation of Andy Legg. His only game in charge was a defeat at Burscough FC.
Timons left Hucknall Town for Ilkeston Town in summer 2008 but returned to Watnall Road in September 2008, before joining Glapwell the following season.
He then stayed at Hall Corner for two successful seasons, but left after Glapwell resigned from the Evo-Stik Northern Premier League Division One South and he joined their local rivals Rainworth Miners Welfare at the start of last season.
Timons was released by the Kirklington Road club just before Christmas 2011.
