SHIREBROOK BEATEN BY LEAGUE LEADERS

Shirebrook Town were beaten by League leaders Knaresborough Town 2-1

ATT 164

MOTM Widdowson

Shirebrook started well with Ryan Herbert and Joe Naylor both having chances to open the scoring however both efforts were off target but it was in the 5th minute with there first attack of the game Gregg Anderson opened the scoring for Knaresborough with a shot that looped over Squries in the Shirebrook net however Shirebrook pushed forward looking to get back in the game with Kieran Watson, Mark Robinson and Danny Williams all having chances to pull Shirebrook level but again failed to take them and in the 18th minute Shirebrook were hit with a sucker punch when Blaine Hobson doubled the home side lead mid way through the half Shirebrook had a chance to pull a goal back but Joe Naylor couldn't get his header on target from a Widdowson free kick and as the half drew to a close Knaresborough had the ball in the net again but it was ruled out for a foul on goalkeeper Squries but Shirebrook had a mountain to climb in the second half.

As the sides came back out for the second half it was the home side who started brightly causing the Shirebrook defense a lot of problems but they failed to take the chances that fell there way with the closest seeing them hit the crossbar not happy with what he was seeing Shirebrook manager Rob Camm looked to his bench and a change of formation and moving players about looked like it had an effect as Thomas Cooke began to get some joy down the right hand side but still Shirebrook couldn't find a way back into the game until the 86th minute when a corner was swung in and after a scramble in the box Joe Naylor got the final touch to get Shirebrook back in the game but despite pushing in the final 5 minutes Knaresborough managed to see out the game and pick up all 3 points.

Shirebrook are without a game this Saturday so return to action the following Tuesday night when AFC Emley visit Langwith Road 7:45 KO
