Poor 10 Minutes Cost Shirebrook
A poor 10 minutes in the second half cost Shirebrook away at Hallam
It was the home side who had the better start to the game but Shirebrook managed to grow into the game with Kieran Darby and Declan Brewin both going close to opening the scoring ex red Kieren Watson was causing problems for the Shirebrook defence but his aim was off and he was struggling to keep his shots on target but as the game was heading towards half time Shirebrook took the lead when Declan Brewin raced through and his cross found Sam Martin at the back post and he put in to the lead and Shirebrook into the break with their noses just in front.
The home side really started to turn the screw in the second half with Kieren Watson forcing Shirebrook goalkeeper Levi Owen into a save the pressure was really starting to tell with chance after chance falling to Hallam but Shirebrook almost got a second when Kieran Darby was played in down the right and chipped the onrushing Hallam keeper but saw his shot go just over the bar but Hallam kept pushing and in the 76th minute Tom Wilson leveled the scores Hallam kept pushing and took the lead in the 83rd minute when Sam Smith managed to get his heard on a corner and the game looked to have been put to bed in the 86th minute when Reece Treasure raced through and scored Hallam 3rd goal of the day but Shirebrook were handed a lifeline in the 88th minute when a cross from the right found sub Thomas Widdowson and he tapped in from close range and as the game went into injury time Shirebrook really should have taken a point when Jack Dando took aim from 25 yards but saw his shot hit the post but with the Hallam keeper being forced to make a save from the resulting shot and then the ball fell to Thomas Widdowson who smashed his shot over the bar from close range and Shirebrook were left to think what could have been.
After the game Shirebrook manager Rob Camm spoke to the bootiful game to gave his thoughts on the game
“We weathered the storm a little bit going up the hill but looked fairly comfortable doing it and managed to get in front just before half time. I felt like we managed the game very well for an hour but started to have a little wobble which bought the crowd into play and we just didn’t manage the next 10 minutes well and found ourselves 3-1 down Credit to the lads they showed character to regroup and we pushed on to get one back and had a great chance to equalise in the last minute. It’s a loss but I’m proud of the way the lads have acquitted themselves today”
