Didcot reflections and Player stats ...

So there we are at half time in the Yate game and a chap was using some fairly industrial language to emphasise his sides bad luck at being behind. Now we all use bad language at times and I have been known, on occasions (ahem) to use the odd word....
Anyway, my major problem was that there were small children about and I aasked him, very politely, to tone it down....
To his credit he immediately apologised to the parent of the kids and to me. We then had a perfectly reasonable chat about the way the first half had gone and the perseived injustice of being behind. He talked about them having the better possession. Agreed. He talked about the elaborateness of their play - over elaborate at times... possibly and then he asked me how many attempts we had had on goal -...
Well their was Lewis's goal I pointed out - rather pointedly... and a couple of other attempts and he pointed out TK's saves. Then came the bone of contention - Josh Egan's strike that rattled the bar.
Now I claim that is a shot on target but it seems I am among the minority - certainly sky always count it as a shot off target. Anyway, I shall stick to my guns.
My point was by the end of the game Yate had still had the better possession and played it all the way from the back and were an excellent football side - BUT...
At times they over elaborated and some of their final ball choice was poor. In the second half TK made a couple of excellent saves and Smash made a heroic block but we matched them and their keeper made a couple of fine saves (one from bam bam was special) and they cleared one off the line too. So all in all I think despite the possession we deserved it - just about... but Yate played some terrific stuff and were the best side we have seen all season.
What was even better was the fact that we kept going and the boys must have been knackered after everything they put in on the Tuesday against Ciren

Now I had a go, quite rightly, at the Ciren match reporter as he was unashamedly biased in his reporting and I had a similar quibble about Rob Iles who covers Yate games for the local press last year. Now it is understandable that the SNJ use Rob's reports as he is a paid professional for the newspaper group and fair play his report this time around was balanced and very fair....

Now the barmy army took in two games this week - Brimscombe v Reading on Tuesday Brimscombe lost 0-2 and the one real item of interest there was Adam Snook getting sent off in a second half incident on the far side of the ground. It seemed that both players both launched themselves but after consultation with his assistant the ref sent Snooky off and booked the Reading guy....
On Wednesday we went to Cirencester to watch Wotton Bassett play Highmoor Ibis. Now Highmoor have a reputation and certainly therir disciplinary record has in the past been... awful... They seem to have cleaned up their act a lot and they are a very good side and it is clear to see why they are top of the league.... They won 3-1 at Bassett and were worthy winners.
The biggest disappointment tho was the fact that their was NO food available, not only nothing hot - but no rolls or anything and the only hot drinks were out of a klix machine at 90 p a shot for a small cup. Surely it cannot be that hard....

While we were there we got on to goals and assists and I pointed out that Bam Bam was leading scorer and had also picked up some assists to put him top of the points in the dash for the stats. With Dunking gone it is likely to be a more even affair...
At which point Paul the juggler asked how Lewis was doing... and I replied that he was fairly high... Quick as a flash Big Phil came back - "At 6 ft 7 I should think he is fairly high!"
Cue schoolboy giggling...

Anyway after 11 games the record is such...

Matt Bennett - 41
Lewis Sommers - 31
Will Morford - 21

In other news Daniel Martin has left the club and gone to Swindon Supermarine and came on to score the winner in their 3-2 win at Mangos... In the 93rd minute no less...

In The GFA The First Team will be away to Bishops Cleeve who knocked out Cheltenham Town in their first round tie. Oh and Joey Tustain scored both their goals in the 2-2 draw that they won on penalties...
