all about the Cups!

I wasn't at Bath... I was in Turkey, soaking up the rays and following the game on twitter on tenterhooks... we came so close to the win even after their late leveller.. such is life... I still smile at the photo of Squish running along the terrace screaming while on his phone...
the replay, to be honest, was disappointing from our point of view and Bath were ready for us and thoroughly deserved there win. I will pass on fairly quickly although I am still flummoxed by the decision of the ref not to send off the guy for the tackle on Jake and even more so by the decision not to send off the sub at the end. We had a chat with Busy at the Ciren game and he confirmed the lad stamped on him and then pushed his head at him and yet they both received yellows.. strange to say the least...
but as I say their win was well deserved and Benno's goal was scant consolation .... so moving on...

Saturday saw us go to Larkhall for the trophy and again i have to say what a cracking club they are. A good side and their organisation is first rate both on and off the field. They mirror us in so many ways and I enjoy my trips there. Very friendly people - and their secretary, Tracy, is a lovely person - as are all the committee that I have met.

The game itself was a strange one. Pricey took his goal well, Benno's was even better but then we let them back in it with a well worked goal and a slip from Ash that could happen to anyone at any time. We were given a real lifeline when one of their front pairing - who always looked dangerous, got himself red carded for a rash challenge but for a while they continued to create the beter chances - and i confess i was a tad concerned. Evo said afterwards that patience was needed to break them down and both or third and fourth goals were similar in so much as our persistance won us the ball - Rawlo and Marley doing the damage with Ross and Nick scoring...
Nick said he passed the ball into the net - I'll give him that one ha ha ...
And so we next travel to Weymouth and no one connected to the club will forget our last visit there! The pub side from Nailsworth and Timmy's passionate moment with big Phil... I suspect Weymouth will not be so underestimating when we meet them this time. But I want to hear our chant going again... ooooooh Shortwood United.. Belief!

And so onto Tuesday... now I went to Ciren and to be fair wasn't expecting a lot... I knew both sides would utilise the squads and I said to Moons I expected to be doing a short report... What I gotwas one of the most entertaining 90 minutes for a long while. It was good to see Luuuuuuuuuuuuke there and i was intrigued (if that is the right word) to see Sykesy at full back. the Management decided to give the squad a good work out and Millsy came in after 5 goals for the Ressies in two games.

Ego's goal after 3 minutes caught a lot of us on the hop and i was talking to Moons when I heard the YES signifying the goal had gone in and a quick flurry of interchange told me the keeper had dropped a clanger. Ross added a second and to be honest we could have been 5 up by the time they scored.... My note book was full of identical lines... Chance... such and such...
Chance such and such.....
Even when Ego scored the third with a Chris Davisesque chip (still remembered) they pulled one back and I am pleased they gave it to Dunton as I thought Jake might have scored an og...
The second half carried on in much the same way ...
Chance... such and such... etc etc...
With the exception that Ashton produced a couple of tremendous saves to keep us in front. At this point Tom King was told he wasn't named on the bench and he sloped off to get changed...
Then the woodwork intervened to keep Niall Morgan's shot out for us and Ben Wells free kick out for them. FINALLY in the dying seconds Ross managed to stick one past the keeper for 4-2! But the score line coulod easily have finished 10 - 5 !!

I await the draw for the second round with baited breath... Truro away?

We have a couple of home games coming up as Mangos visit saturday and Taunton Tuesday... no jokes about Sheffied Wednesday thank you!
The Ressies meanwhile hope to continue their form with a trip to Clanfield...
