some stats and a high horse...

It would be wrong to start anywhere but with the Ressies who pulled off a great 3-1 win at Milton United in the Hellenic Supplementary Cup. Two goals from Liam and a header from Luke won us the game and there was certainly no chortling from the barmy army when we heard Luke had scored which means his dad , Paul, has to shell out... oh hang on - it was a header - errrr double then...
Nope still no chortling here...

So here we are at the middle of January and so far (at the time of writing) in all competitions we have played 37 games and only 14 of them have been at home! We have had miserable luck in cup games and apart from Oxford City we have been drawn away in every single cup game.
Midweek has not been kind to us in midweek either due to postponements and we have faced a few awkward away trips including Wimborne - where we were late kicking off because of awful traffic and in the next week or so we have to travel to Tivvy also on a Tuesday and the kick off for that is 7.30!!! Even the Ressies have suffered... even having to go to Ascot for a Floodlit Cup tie on a Tuesday - when the 1sts were at Hungerford...

We have drawn our last 3 games as I write with two 2-2 draws and a 3-3 draw at Sholing and in my humble opinion a draw is the least we have deserved in all three of them. Against Swindon and Didcot Josh Klein - Davies came off the bench to score late levellers and came sooo close to getting another goal against Sholing in the 3-3 draw - only a strong hand from keeper Webber kept his shot out. wecome JKD...

We have scored 73 goals at 1.97 per game and conceded 53 at 1.43... and that goals against figure is a bit worrying...
we only conceded 61 in the whole of last year...
In Assists this year the top of the table reads like this...
Nick Hancock 13
Lewis Sommers 11
Marley Thomas 10
Ross Langworthy 9

The Didcot game was the only one on in our division that night and I have to congratulate Diddy on getting the pitch as good as it was.. The crazy thing about the match was that we had all the play in the first half and went in at half time level and they had all the play in the second and went in ...level - leaving both sets of management disappointed.

And so to Saturday... and to say the game was interesting is an understatement... now checking back to the last time we went to Sholing I think there were 9 bookings and a sending off in a game where there was only one bad tackle and Coatesy was rightly sent off and I had a moan about the referee and a lack of consistancy...
Now I have marked referees higher this year than I ever have and I have been pleased to do so. I know how hard the job is.But I cannot accept that for Saturday.
This column is written with my supporters hat on but I am also aware of my role within the club and the relationship I have with match officials is very good indeed so I will content myself with stating that Saturday's performance was one of the worst I can ever remember and leave it at that! Awful...

As for the game itself, it was a real see saw of a game with us being 2-0 at half time and it could have been worse - i thought their first claim for a penalty was more solid that the second... and they also had the better other chances too.
The second half was a complete turnaround as we scored twice in a minute through Pricey and Joe White and then Lewis put us 3-2 up. We should have had a penalty too when Lewis was hauled down and JKD came close twice. Their third goal was ... disappointing... but given the two halves the draw as about right.

It would be wrong to leave the first team game without reference to the return of Jake.... welcome home buddy... and it also means a big welcome to our friend Carlos and that is also a good thing....

We have Diddy at home tomorrow - if the frost let's get it on - but given our record of postponed games against Diddy this season don't count your chickens... then saturday we have another home game Bridgwater... while the Ressies travel to top of the league Longlevens...
