Reserves lose to Tavs!
Shortwood United Reserves 1 Taverners 3 pre-season friendly
The Reserves played their first friendly of the Season on Saturday and lost to a strong looking Taverners side who could enjoy a good season in the County League.
The opening exchanges were even and Ryan Thwaite fired a good chance across goal and a Taverners corner rolling along the bar. As Taverners began to assert themselves King made a good tip over from Tom Pugh before Taverners took the lead after 23 minutes – a good move was clinically finished Sean Lawson.
Wood responded and Parsloe had a header blocked and Meredith ran through and chipped the keeper and the bar. Cant blasted another effort wide but Lawson rattled the bar before Taverners doubled their lead after 38 minutes. Springer ran through and chipped King.
Mills shot into the side netting and Parsloe lost control as he ran through before the break.

Taverners scored a soft goal from Lawson to put Taverners 3-0 up just after the break before Shortwood played their best football of the game forcing a string of corners and creating some half chances. When Taverners broke they still looked dangerous and only a clearance off the line stopped Wood going four down
After 80 minutes were awarded a penalty when Parsloe was tripped just inside the box and the striker took the kick himself only to see it saved at the foot of the post. Minutes later Ryan Thwaite made a good run down the left and his excellent low cross was perfectly met by Rick Kerry who knocked the ball home from 12 yards.

The Reserves continue their pre-season games when they Brimscombe Reserves at Meadowbank on Monday evening – 7.30
