In front of a vocal and passionate home crowd, against the leagues most dominant and stand out team the Blues delivered an almost faultless display of rugby.
Given the last few weeks, the conditions were to be expected, but this did not alter the ambition and intention of how this new Shrewsbury team want to play their brand of rugby.
Pre match discussion focused on decision making, making the right decision at the right time, not making mistakes, but continuing to play with ambition. The players worked hard throughout this top of the table clash, scoring five tries for the eighth consecutive match.
The most pleasing element throughout this encounter was Shrewsbury's defensive intent. To prevent a very powerful and clinical team from scoring any points during the 80 minutes was testament to the improvement in the defensive mind set and organisation of the squad.
The squad all recognise that there is more to come, with improvement to be had across many aspects of the game. If this squad are to reach what should be their full potential, they will have to work much harder on many elements of their technical skills and game knowledge. Until we reach that point, we are determined to take nothing for granted.
The squad would also like to thank those supporters who withstood the horrendous conditions, and provided some much appreciated vocal support. It was very much appreciated.
This week the Blues travel to Wednesbury, fully aware of the challenge this tough uncompromising team will offer on home soil.
