Shrewsbury expect to be an unchanged as they chase a return to winning ways in the Birmingham League premier division at home to lowly Kidderminster on Saturday.

Despite back-to-back defeats against Knowle & Dorridge and last weekend at Barnt Green, Shrewsbury remain handily placed in third spot, just a dozen points behind both Berkswell, the leaders, and Knowle & Dorridge.

Ed Foster, Shrewsbury’s vice-chairman and long-serving batsman, is just keen that the London Road men quickly rediscover the winning habit.

He said: “Fortunately, Berkswell didn’t manage to win last weekend, so we’re still in the mix with both of those teams above still to play at home later on in the year, but we just want to get back to winning ways.”

Foster added: “We’ve all looked at the fixture list since Saturday. There’s essentially a full half a season to go but there aren’t any games that stand out as being easy games.

“We definitely want to go on the kind of run we did in the first half of the season and give ourselves a good chance come the last few weeks because when it becomes win-lose anything can happen then really.”

Skipper Ben Stebbings hit an unbeaten 50 at Barnt Green last Saturday despite being troubled by a hand injury.

Assuming he’s fit to play, Shrewsbury should be able to say same again, with Foster encouraged by the form of his side’s bowlers.

“The seam bowlers bowled really well last Saturday,” he said: "Dillon Pennington is starting to show himself to be a really promising cricketer.

“Mike Barnard’s been what he has been over the last few years and Sam Griffiths is finding a bit of form which is great, so those three coupled with Jimmy Hulton-Harrop’s spin - he’s bowling very nicely - so we’re looking okay on the bowling front.”

Meanwhile, teenage Shrewsbury seamer George Panayi is preparing with the England under-19 squad for two four-day matches against India, with the first at Queen’s Park, Chesterfield starting on Sunday.

Panayi, a former student at Shrewsbury School, made his England under-19 debut against Sri Lanka last summer and has played for Warwickshire in their last two County Championship matches.
