Congratulations to our Under 14's who won the Division One Championship at CWC Park yesterday in front of a large crowd. The coaching team of Ben Jackson, Paul Hirst and Steve Copley have once again led their team to silverware following a game high in quality against a very good Stanningley team.
Siddal were on the back foot at the start of the game as the visitors, led by the superb hooker Devine Balmforth and loose forward Nick Staveley, ensured that the home side didn't have any possession for the first 6 minutes of the game. During that opening period, Stanningley took the lead as they moved the ball out wide for a try in the corner that was too wide for a conversion.
Siddal clawed their way back into the game as the pack started to gain ground during their sets and errors were kept to a minimum. Siddal scored three tries in the last 15 minutes of the first half through Harvey Oldroyd, who showed what an outstanding talent he is. All were converted by Kai Morgan as the opening period ended 18-4.
Stanningley fought back in the second half and scored two tries of their own, one of which was converted. They almost snatched the win with two minutes left on the clock, but a try saving tackle forced the ball loose with the Stanningley attacker over the line and preparing to score. It typified the effort both sides put in to a thoroughly entertaining game played in good spirit.
