Sidlesham 5 - 0 Clymping
Off to a flyer in first home game of the new season
Sidlesham held there first league home game of the 2016/17 season Tuesday night, hosting Clymping FC.
Having lost on the previous Saturday and not really taking their pre season form into the first game against a well organised and creative Roffey side. The management staff were looking for a much improved performance at home.
The game started at a reasonable pace with the home side applying early pressure to the Clymping goal. With Sidlesham going close on a couple of occasions the game really needed a goal to settle the home side. The opening came after 6 minutes when a good move down the right resulted in Callum Dowdell turning home at the far post. This settled the home side down and they started to play some good possession football although the pitch playing it's part with a few bobbles here and there due to the hard ground.
Sidlesham got their second on the 30 minute mark with Callum Dowdell heading home after good work from John Phillips on the right.
Sidlesham therefore holding onto there 2-0 lead till the break with Clymping looking occasionally dangerous on the break although the back four holding them to long range efforts from outside the box.
Sidlesham came out for the second half looking to extend their lead and on 60 minutes a great finish from John Phillips took the game away from Clymping who themselves were still working hard to stop the industrial midfield of Sidlesham. On 70 minutes Tom Jefkins made it 4-0 after some neat interplay in midfield which saw him arrive in the box and finish well. Tom Bayley completed the win on 87 minutes with a cool finish after being put through clear on goal.
All in all a much better performance than Saturday and a perfect response with a 5-0 victory and a clean sheet much to the delight of the home management and watching crowd.
Man of the Match was Callum Dowdell.
