A sunny but cool Sunday morning saw the first U11 fixture of the season take place at Seaton Cricket Club. Sidmouth won the toss and elected to bat.
Seaton got off to a perfect start, when in the second over Captain Ben Goodier struck twice to have Sidmouth 6 for 2 after two overs. It was now up to the Sidmouth Captain, Max Hancock
, and Louis Adey
to rebuild the innings. They did this is fine style both achieving the retirement score of 30. Max was first to retire on 31 and Louis followed a few overs later on 33. Both young men batted very sensibly to set up the final total of 89. On what was a greenish wicket that total was going to be hard to chase down.
When it was Seaton’s turn to bat, they found it very difficult to score runs. The top six batsmen only managed to score 3 runs between them and that was primarily down to Thomas Simmons
and Daniel Mayor
. Thomas’s figures of 4 overs, 1 maiden, 3 for 6 were nothing short of brilliant and equally as impressive were the figures of Dan whose 3 overs went for 13 runs while taking 3 wickets. The support bowling from Thomas Moore, Ollie Pugsley
, Jash Patidar
and Finlay Richards
was miserly as well and shows there is strength in depth at the club in this age group.
Generally the fielding was of a good standard with the catch of the day made by Jash Patidar
out in the deep. There are a few things that need to be worked on over the next few week’s, however, this was a well polished performance for the first game of the season. Well done to all of you.
Today’s man of the match was tough to call as both batsmen and bowlers performed extremely well. However, with his outstanding bowling figures, Thomas Simmons
is this week’s Man of the Match.
