Sidmouth U11s where looking for their 4th win in 5 weeks in this Sundays fixture against Thorverton. Sidmouth won the toss and inserted the visitors.
Today saw every Sidmouth fielder have a bowl. The opening bowling pair of Harry Ensall and Jash Patidar didn’t allow the Thorverton openers to get away to a fast start. After the first 4 overs the opposition had managed to score 13 runs. Their replacements, continued to strangle the batsmen. Jordan Fowler was the pick of the bowlers (2 overs, 2 for 5) and ably supported by Thomas Burhop (2 overs, 1 for 4). After the 8th over, the bowlers had managed to take 3 wickets while conceding only 27 runs. Finlay Richards and Josh Turner then took over and again very little was conceded off the bat. The remaining 8 overs were bowled by Cole Monaghan, Max Weavin, Kellen Hamilton and Louis Adey. Cole and Max both got into the wicket taking act as well, as each got a wicket helped by good catching by Thomas Moore. The champagne moment of the morning was a direct throw by Louis Adey to run out one of the Thorverton batsmen. All the bowlers’ efforts meant that after the 20 overs had been bowled, Thorverton had managed to score 78.
With a good wicket to bat on and a fairly fast outfield, this total seemed to be well under par. And so it proved to be, as the Sidmouth openers, Thomas Moore and Jash Patidar tucked into the bowling. Thomas made a fine 25, crunching 6 fours, before being caught with the score on 56 in the 9th over. Jash batted sensibly to carry his bat for a well made 22 not out. The only other wicket to fall was that of Louis Adey. The Thorverton total was surpassed with ease at the end of the 15th over for the loss of only 2 wickets.
With 4 more league fixtures to play the U11s are placed well to make a challenge for the title. If we can continue to bowl and bat consistently we have a very good chance of doing just that. Although this was a solid team performance and everyone contributed to the victory, the stand out performer of the day was Thomas Moore with his 25 runs and 2 catches and hence he is this week’s Man of the Match.
