SIDMOUTH’S East Devon Indoor League programme finished with victory over Newton Poppleford which assured them of the runners-up spot.
A fusillade of boundaries from Charlie Miles, who finished unbeaten on 51, boosted the Sidmouth score to 132 after the usually fluent start became sedate after Ken Clay acrobatically caught a Miles Dalton drive that looked destined to be a six..
Anthony Dibble registered the retirement score of 25 and John Goodwin was 19 not out.
The total looked vulnerable as Newton Poppleford openers Tom Clay and Richard Coombs reached 25 quickly and Sidmouth contributed a host of wides.
Sidmouth’s cause was helped when Clay deposited a Lee Clayden delivery on top of a netted area and the replacement was a new ball.
Batsmen struggled to cope with the swing now generated by Nick Mansfield and the spin of Dalton and Miles.
Coombs came back to reach 31 but getting 24 off the final over was too much for him and Newton Poppleford finished on 115-3.
