In soaring temperatures, a mixed Town 11 won out 2-1 against a competitive Asfordby side.

Two early goals from Dan and Matt Jelley respectively was enough to see that the pre season campaign got off to a win.

"It's not about the results at this stage," said Steve Hendey after the game, "it's about getting everyone minutes on the pitch. The lads put in a good shift and it was great to see Matt (Jelley) grab himself a goal on his debut. He looks like he'll be a real handful for defences this year."

Hendey's plans were thrown somewhat into disarray on 70 minutes when defender Mitch Turner was asked to leave the field of play. A red card was not shown however Town were forced to see out the rest of the game with 10 men as the referee would not allow a replacement to be brought on.

"It did spoil it a bit. I was forced to keep players on who I would ideally have rested and to leave players out who I would have liked to have thrown back on. All in all though it was a pleasing start and we'll look to Tuesday night when I'll have more lads returning to pick from."

Town play local rivals Sileby Victoria with kick off at 7pm this Tuesday at Memorial Park.
