Find out more about 'Touch' at Sils

What is Touch?

Touch Rugby or TOUCH, as it is known, is a minimal contact sport that is played worldwide by men, women, mixed and children of all ages. The game emphasises running, agility and ball handling skills such as passing and catching.

Looking something similar to Rugby, without the tackling, scrumming, kicking and the like, the aim of the game is to score tries. Played on a flat surface, half the size of a conventional rugby pitch (70m x 50m). Touch rugby is the fastest growing sport in the UK.

At Sils we are concentrating on developing Touch with 'mixed' teams of men and women. Each team can have a playing squad of up to 14 players with 6 on the pitch at any one time, of which two must always be women. Games are usually 40 minutes long with 2 x 20 minute halves.

Sils RFC are 'hosting' any Touch team. It already has two teams. Oddballs formed in 2011 and are mostly staff from Birmingham Children's Hospital. The Sils Mini/Juniot coaches also have a team that formed in late 2011.

The official governing body of the sport is known as the Federation of International TOUCH. You can find out much more at www.englandtouch.org.uk or www.in2touch.com
