MAGNIFICENT SILS UNDER 10’S WIN NORTH MIDS CUP

For the first time, Silhillians have won the Under 10’s North Midlands Cup.

Starting of with qualifying games against Chaddesley, Droitwich and Dudley Kingswinford, some great running from George Armstrong, Will Tanner and Tom Fawcett and support play from Jacob Richmond and James Cusack saw us score 15 tries and concede none to win all of our matches and take our place in the next round of the main competition.

In the quarter-final Sils were drawn against Luctonians, a team we had not played since tag. We had to step up a gear and some great tackling from Benn Edwin and Will Knight during a storming game saw Sils score 4 tries to no reply and advance to the semi-final where we would play local rivals Bromsgrove. Having beaten Bromsgrove in the Sils festival, confidence was high. In a tough game Sils put some great passing moves together and this combined with solid tackling and rucking led to Sils running in a further 4 tries to none and a place in the final.

The final brought together two teams that had not conceded a try all day, Sils and Worcester. Tired legs and aching bodies were not going to stop us now and the forward line of Ollie Thorneywork, James Kinder and Will Jordan got stuck in right from the outset. Worcester fought well and some hard tackling from both sides left the score nil-nil at half time. The second half saw Sils pile on the pressure and the game was played mostly in Worcester’s half of the pitch. Jordan Carlington came close for Sils and only needing to cross the try line once, Kai Lucas-Dumolo managed to run away from the Worcester defence to score the only try of the match and that was it, Sils were the winners.

Tears and smiles all around and that was just the parents! What a fantastic day!
