UNDER 10’S CROWNED PRIMA CHAMPIONS
In front of a big crowd at Leicester Tigers, Sils under 10’s finished off their season with a one try to nil victory over Market Harborough Under 10’s
Some 150 parents, family, friends and supporters made their way to Leicester to watch the Under 10’s play their first cup final against Market Harborough. To the sounds of the Star Wars theme music the two teams entered the pitch through the player’s tunnel to a fantastic round of applause from the thousands of people already in the ground. Harboro’ won the toss and elected to start. The first half saw the two teams camped out on the centre line, although Sils probably had more possession. It was a tough battle with neither side prepared to give ground. Sils missed a few tackles and Harboro’ made some ground but then Sils rucking and short charges saw them in the Harboro’ half.
The crowd were fantastic, with Sils supporters out-chanting the Harboro’ crowd, even the Harlequins players who were out on the pitch stopped to watch this nail-biting game. Sils started the second half and made progress into the opponents half, where they spent most of the rest of the match. For long stretches Sils were camped on the Harboro’ try line, trying to find a way over but the Harboro’ defence held. Eventually Sils scored, Harboro’ gave away a penalty and from the free pass Tom Fawcett was able to crash through the defensive wall to score the only try of the game.
Following the restart, Harborough tried valiantly to take the game to Sils but once our boys had scored they weren’t going to give the opposition any quarter. The ref blew his Whistle and the Sils Under 10’s became the winners of the Prima Tigers Cup. Great celebrations followed!
What great sports the Harboro’ team, coaches and supporters were and what a credit to their club, let’s hope we get to play them again.
The boys collected their trophy in front of a packed Welford Road crowd during the half-time break in the Tigers v Harlequins game.
Overall, what a fantastic season the squad has had, winning the Sils Festival, the Banbury Festival, the Worcester Festival, the North Mids Cup and now the Prima Tigers Cup. Along the way they also shared honours at the Bees Festival.
None of this would have been possible without the support from coaches and family, thanks to you all.
