On what could be a historic day for the country in the voting booth, Skelmersdale United are delighted to announce an historic event of our own with the double contract signing of Danny Ventre and Steven Gillespie from Warrington Town.

Both players initially joined the club last month but today put pen to paper on 12 month deals which will see Danny join as a player and Steven as a player/coach.

Danny comes to the club from the Yellows after spells at Sligo Rovers and Derry City in Ireland which included gaining some experience in the Europa League and after completing his UEFA B license in May 2015, he is currently a foundation coach at Blackpool FC.

Steven begins his second spell at the club after joining on loan from the Yellows back in February making 11 appearances but also as part of Alan Rogers' coaching staff, a role which he will continue next season. He has played at the likes of Bristol City, Cheltenham Town, Colchester United, Fleetwood Town, Bristol City and more recently Altrincham which saw him reach 300 career appearances while also coaching at Wigan Athletic.

Alan Rogers expressed his joy at the signings " I am delighted to have secured Danny and Steven for the next year. Both players were a priority for me to sign, Steven as a player/coach gives us experience both on and off the pitch,he has played at a high level which can only benefit us going forward. Alike Steven, Danny will give us huge experience on the pitch and having worked with him before, I look forward to having him at Skem."

Danny commented " I am delighted to sign for the club and help them push for promotion next season, having worked under Alan before (Sligo Rovers), I know how he goes about the job and I hope to be part of a successful season for United."

Steven commented " Delighted to be on board here at Skem and eager to push for promotion next season, that's the main aim for us after a mixed campaign last season."
