MATLOCK AT HOME ON SATURDAY

By Neil Leatherbarrow

Skelmersdale United are at home again on Saturday, when Matlock Town are the visitors to Stormy Corner for a 3pm kick off. They will be looking for a better showing than last week against Stamford, but manager Tommy Lawson speaking this week thinks that there were a number of factors working against Skelmersdale that they will not have to overcome this week and he is looking forward to a different type of game.
Manager Tommy Lawson commented on the fund raising that is taking place at Skelmersdale at the moment, caused by the budgeting cutbacks that have been necessary. He said; “The response has really been magnificent and I know that the players are appreciating everyone’s efforts. The club are actively looking for sponsors and donations are needed to keep the playing squad together until the end of the season. Any support large or small will be equally welcomed, if you cannot afford much just give what you can afford, every bit counts. Anybody wanting to help can contact 07977 218619. “
Having not played since December, Rob Bodie returns to the Skelmersdale line-up and he will make a difference for Skelmersdale as he has been a regular in the centre of defence alongside Rob McIntosh all season. Rob was sent-off in the controversial match at Halesowen before Christmas and he has been missed as he served a suspension. Tommy Lawson has also been chasing the signature of a youngster from Wrexham, who based locally, but more will be revealed about that next week.
On Saturday 21st February Skelmersdale united are at home again, against King’s Lynn Town, kick off 3pm.
A date has also be fixed for Skelmersdale semi-final tie in the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup, when they will play Southport away on Tuesday 17th March, kick off 7-15pm. The winner will play either AFC Liverpool or Bootle in the final, the two North-West Counties clubs having their semi-final tie set for Wednesday 18th February.
