SKELMERSDALE UNITED NEED YOU

Your local football club needs you! A saying that has been used before and will no doubt be used again at football clubs the length and breadth of the country. Well Skelmersdale United FC are looking for your help, this weekend and on most weekends between now and the middle of July.
The help is mostly on getting the Stormy Corner stadium spick and span for the coming season, “Whether it is a bit of painting or some brushing up or pulling weeds out of various places the jobs are pretty endless really,” said a club spokesperson this week.
Skelmersdale United’s ground took quite a hit during the winter months. The pitch on Boxing Day was under about a foot of water as evidenced in the photograph, also there was damage to the fence at the far end of the ground caused by high winds. It is known that a repair grant has been applied for to repair the fence and when asked about the pitch the spokesperson said; “The work over the last couple of weeks has been centred on the pitch and that is now awaiting some expert assistance, I must thank supporters for their contribution to that. A football ground is like The Forth Bridge, when you get to one end the other needs starting on again, so it is the stadium that requires the tender loving care and most people are qualified to do that”
The ground will be open at 9am on Saturday morning and for consecutive Saturday’s through to the start of the season, also if anyone wants to do their bit during the week that be appreciated too.”
Skelmersdale United’s first scheduled pre-season match is against Accrington Stanley on Tuesday 19th July, the next fixed date is Saturday 30th July when Enfield Town make the long trip up from North London for the game that marks the commemoration of the 1967 Wembley Final (there will be more information on that day soon, but it is known that sponsorship opportunities are available). Burscough away is arranged for Tuesday 2nd August.
The club are waiting for Everton confirming the date of the Liverpool County FA Senior Cup semi-final from last season, so that they can confirm further games,
