SKIPTON 20 - 24 HULLENSIANS

Skipton started the game as selected with Josh Beck making his debut for the first team at no.6. A big Hullensians team dominated for the first 10 minutes but then all of the Skipton side found their footing making good foraging into the Hullensians half.

From one of these attacks, Hullensians broke away to score an unconverted try wide out. Skipton's pack and backs continued to press the Hullensians line and were rewarded with a penalty which was duly converted by Adam Oldfield who replaced an injured Darren Howson who broke his hand the previous week.

Now on the ascendancy, Skipton scored a try by Hamish Munro which was converted by Oldfield. Again the Liverpool referee, Philip Nam, awarded another penalty in front of the posts but Oldfield missed the kick much to everyone's amazement.

The second half followed the same routine with Skipton on top for the next 20 minutes with captain, Matt Speres going over close to the posts and with Oldfield securing the conversion to become Skipton RFC's leading points scorer with 1,350 points beating the record held by Peter Shearer in the 1990s. Another penalty to Skipton was converted by Oldfield making the score 20-05

With 20 minutes to go, Skipton should have won but Hullensian's forwards were now in charge and the wheels came off Skipton's game. Hullensians scored three tries and converted two to finish with a 20-24 win. For the neutral spectators a cracking game was witnessed but for the Skipton players and supporters only heartbreak. On the bright side, no injuries were sustained and the young bloods, Josh Beck and Jordan Emmison aquitting themselves well and Matty Wilson, Jonathan Richards and Matthew Boatwright were outstanding for Skipton.
