Old Rish 59 v Skipton 2nd 7

The Mighty 2s come up against the level of opposition they will face next year if they get promotion..........

Skipton 2nds travelled to Old Rish with players mssing due to illness which effected both the firsts and seconds and it was always going to be a hard game with Old Rish in a higher league and having a very good season. The first 10 minutes were evenly match with both teams attacking and defending well and sizing each other up and it was Old Rish who took the lead by a try out wide. Skipton tried to get some structure and composure to their game however injuries to Patrick, Emmison, Gane and Ridehalgh meant a re-shuffle to Skiptons pack and backline. Old Rish were a quick and powerful side who were very good at offloading in the tackle which caused Skipton problems and the Old Rish were able to score several more tries before half time.

At the interval Skipton changed the game plan to keeping the ball tight and this proved to be the right decision because good ground was gained or Old Rish infringed and this kept Skipton in Old Rish half and from some good work by the forwards and backs, Skiptons Owen Higson was able to drive over from close range with Ridehalgh adding the conversion. Old Rish made some changes and the players who came on were not only big in statue before also fast and skillful and this allowed them to score 5 further tries in the second half to give them a final winning score of 59 to 7.

The highlights of the game was the welcome return of Owen Higson, who even playing out of position in the centres caused problems, tackled well and scored. The other main highlight was watching the two wingers Rikki Walker, on his first run out and 17 year old Alex Bulluck both having fantastic games. Walker proved himself to be a devastating tackler and stopped several strong runs and Alex made several try saving tackles and also ran strong with ball in hand and on every occasion was able to beat the first tackler.

Skipton 2nds now look forward to getting back into league action with a huge game against Old Brods at Sandylands on Saturday 21st February.
