Skirlaugh Bulls were crowned Hull Vice Presidents Under 13 Memorial Cup 2012 winners after beating Hull Wyke 46-8 with Oliver Shipley
scoring a double hat-trick in the match.
Both teams went into the final boasting of being undefeated in the competitive league campaign and a close encounter was anticipated.
With Skirlaugh kicking off, in the first set Skirlaugh caused Wyke to fumble the ball and from the scrum Bob Downs
was able to pass to Oliver Shipley
who scored his first to put his team in front.
Wyke hit back after Skirlaugh conceded a penalty and gaining good field position, a kick to the corner was touched down by the Wyke winger.
Shipley then finished off a move, after strong runs downfield from Dan Spence
and Harrison Chapman Dusher, outjumping Wyke`s defenders to gather and score. Shipley then scored his third try after a jinking run downfield from Downs.
Skirlaugh then had a try disallowed and Wyke responded to this when the Wyke winger was again on hand to touchdown from a kick to the corner.
On the stroke of half-time Skirlaugh increased their lead with the ball passed out wide, Charlie Macaulay
scored and with the goal converted Skirlaugh went in at half-time leading 20 -8.
At the start of the second half Wyke gained the advantage from the kick off, but the Skirlaugh forwards Llloyd Gurnell, Joe Sherwood, Ben Butler, Alex Ollett, Josh Hick and Lewis Bunn were dominant in defence. Downs again broke away from the Wyke defence and Jack Danby
then threw out a great pass to Shipley to touchdown.
Shipley hit Wyke with another try after another period of pressure.
As the second half progressed Wyke`s defence were working overtime. Spence extended Skirlaugh`s lead running 50 metres to score under the sticks and with the goal converted Skirlaugh had a 34-8 lead.
This was a great team performance with Gregor Everitt,Myles Palmer,Luke Marsters, Brad Hicks and Jordan Stratton all playing their part in their teams performance.
With one hand on the cup Skirlaugh extended their lead, Shipley gathered a Wyke drop out to score his sixth try of the game under the posts and the final try of the game went to Man of the Match Chapman-Dusher who went on another charge downfield leaving the Wyke defence behind him to also score under the posts. With the goal converted by lloyd gurnell
,the referee called full-time with Skirlaugh Bulls running out emphatic winners 46-8.
