Skirlaugh Bulls v Beverley Braves
Skirlaugh Bulls played Beverley Braves at home and won the game 7-3.
The boys started the first half a little sluggish but after 5 minute started to play a lot better with some good hard running from Jack Robinson, Alfie Shultz and Riley Wilson. Direction was through Ben McNamara and Scott Rowntree from some good balls by Jacob Chatwin, running in the 3 quarters from George Cochran and Tom Danby. Kieron Boyd returning from holiday did some good runs out wide with some good off loads when being pushed for touch. In defence the boys did really well and put some big hits especially from the likes of Tom Danby, Alfie Shultz and yet again from the smallest man on the field Jacob Chatwin who squared up to one of the biggest and brought him down, well done mate.
The boys ran in some tries during this half with some good line work and some good individual efforts they came from Alfie Shultz and Tom Danby who both scored two each and the last was Ben McNamara, Beverley Braves managed to grab a try and so the half finished 5-1.
With some changes for the start of the second half Jay Smallwood and Scott Rowntree dictated the play, they used Kai Fowler, Josh Berndston and Oliver Hemsworth to work up the middle, they all did some good runs. Bradley Garrod and Tyler Mellors followed, they play and produced some good runs, and both got more involved. The line work was working well and the boys are starting to understand what is required from them as they are working well as a team more and more. In defence they boys did well with some good tackles from Tom Danby, Jay Smallwood and Alfie Shultz, but as the half went on and the team had a few changes we lost a little shape and this unfortunately allowed Beverley Braves to score two tries during the half, but not to be out done the boys managed to score two tries themselves and they came from Tyler Mellors and Alfie Shultz.
The game was good to watch and at times they got a little lost but they managed to battle on and showed a great team spirit so well done boys.
Man of the match was going to be close as it was between two players and there was nothing to choose between them, so with not being able to decide it went to Tom Danby and Alfie Shultz.
Well done boys on a few games left keep it going.
