Skirlaugh Bulls v Cottingham Tigers
Tonight’s game was at home to Cottingham Tigers, this game went back and forth with both teams working hard in defence, with some good tackles from Jacob Chatwin, Tom Danby and Tyler Mellors. We got close to the line a few times with good runs from Ben McNamara and Keiron Boyd. Finally managing to cross the line with Tyler Mellors from a good run to score the first try of the night; his try was converted by Ben McNamara. Cottingham Tigers ran the ball back hard and strong this resulted in them scoring a good try which was converted. After a good talk and some interchanges we kept the effort going with runs from Kai Fowler, Bradley Garrod and Jay Smallwood and supported by Ben Ellis and Ben McNamara. With some good runs our next try was set up and scored by Keiron Boyd who converted his own try. The Pressure was maintained with good runs from Alfie Shultz, Riley Wilson and Josh Berndston which made us finish the half on a better foot.
Second half started with a few changes and the boys worked hard Alfie Shultz, George Cochran and Oliver Hemsworth running the ball in and allowing Ben McNamara to set the plays bringing Joe Moore and Oliver Agar in on the fringes. The next try was scored with a determined run by Tom Danby and he converted his try. In defence the boys worked hard with Alfie Shultz, Tom Danby and Luke Armstrong leading the way with Sam Adams cleaning up behind them. The next try came from slight laps in concentration and so Cottingham forcing their way over even with Keiron Boyd putting himself in the way which resulted in him taking an elbow to the throat. The boys hit straight back with Tyler Mellors who ran in a try on his wing; this was converted by Josh Berndston. Cottingham Tigers to their credit never gave up and continually ran hard but our defence held strong. This resulted in a brake down in play for Cottingham, we was then able to gathered the ball, this resulted with some good run by Kai Fowler and Alfie Shultz, which finished with Riley Wilson scoring a good try from a hard run and managing to convert this before the final whistle. Unfortunately we finished the game with a few injures Josh Berndston bloody noise and lip, Keiron Boyd sore neck and Ben Ellis with an ankle injury, these will be checked at training on Saturday!!!!
The game finished 30 – 16 win for us, with the Man of the Match to be picked, the player who this was awarded this was Alfie Shultz who was asked to step it up a little with this he produced a good display well done.
Well done boys another good game with a good result, Keep it going.
