Hull Isberg v Skirlaugh Bulls
Skirlaugh Bulls were away to Ideal Isberg. On a narrow pitch the game kicked off and Ideal played the narrow pitch to their advantage, the game was being played down the middle and so it was going to be a close game as Ideal had a few big forwards and they used them very well. Kai Fowler, Alfie Shultz and Riley Wilson were running the ball in and making good ground and supported well by Tom Danby and Jay Smallwood. Ben Ellis ran well from dummy half along with Jacob Chatwin, Ben Ellis was also organising the plays with Keiron Boyd and Tyler Mellors running hard out wide and supported by Sam Adams and Charlie Cavanaugh. The game was at a stale mate due to the narrow pitch and we often seem to run out of space but the boys kept trying this eventually paid off with the first try coming from Alfie Shultz, who managed to convert the try. Ideal came straight back and they pushed towards our line and with the big pack they had made some good ground and this did result in them scoring a good try. With some interchanges made the boys had to work hard at the basics and kept getting themselves mixed up (this will be worked on in training on Saturday). Now with Ben McNamara on the field he was now using Josh Berndtson and Oliver Hemsworth to take the ball forward, a quick play the ball from Joe Moore and a good run from Riley Wilson which was followed by Josh Berndtson making impressive yards, the
ball found its way to Tom Danby who ran at the line and crossed over it to score next,
unfortunately his kicking boots were left at home as he hit the post. With Luke Armstrong
now on he made some good tackles on the wing and was helped out by Bradley Garrod and on the other wing Oliver Agar and Tyler Mellors also kept Ideals big forwards from making too many yards. With the half time whistle the boys needed a little team talk.
The second half started and Ideal ran the ball in well and defended very well, the narrow pitch was still giving them the advantage but our defence was holding up very well. The boys ran the ball well but were not just firing on all cylinders and kept getting caught out with the narrow pitch, at times too many people wanted to do everything. Ideal kept battling hard and so did our boys with runs from Tom Danby and Oliver Agar who was having another good game both in defence and attacking runs. We managed to follow a good kick from Ben McNamara and made the tackle behind the sticks to give us a good advantage, but after a few mistakes by both teams with the ball swapping hands a few times we eventually got it back and a hard run from Alfie Shultz he forced his way over the line for a well deserved try. Ideal did not give up and kept trying to break our line but with some ferocious tackling from all of the boys we managed to stop them from crossing. Bradley Garrod scored next this was from some good passing and it ended up in Bradley’s hands and with some side stepping he found his way over the line, he then converted the gaol as well.
With full time, and a 20 v 4 win for Skirlaugh Bulls.
Man of the match went to Oliver Agar for his hard work and for listening to Chatty.
Well done boys, you have a hard week in training, keep it going.
