Slade Point Rugby Union Club is the only club in Mackay with their own home ground, Cathy Freeman Oval, Wren Street, Slade Point.

Cathy Freeman Oval is currently undergoing redevelopment with government and sponsorship funding of around $50,000 being gathered to erect lighting for the rugby ground, which is Stage 1 of the project. This will enable the club to train on the rugby field at nights and will lead to night fixtures. Work on this commenced in December 2010, and was recently completed in January, 2012 in readiness for the current season.

Funding for Stage 2 is currently being gathered, where a new shed and change rooms will hopefully be erected. Other features of Cathy Freeman Oval, include, toilets, gear storage sheds and a club house. A grant from Mackay Regional Council in early 2010 allowed the club to purchase a state of the art scrum machine which has been very helpful in training players.
