A quick round up of goings on at the club from Slough RFC Chairman, Matt Harris.

Hi and welcome to the latest roundup of goings on around your club.

On the playing side the First XV have had a couple of slip ups and we have now dropped to fifth in the league. We have played a very strong Reading Abbey and a well drilled Wheatley team and we face tough opposition this weekend with Swindon College Old Boys away, but we have ourselves put in some very good performances with Gosford All Blacks and Phoenix springing to mind. We beat Chesham in the Bucks Plate Semi Final and look forward to facing Phoenix in the final at home on the 29th November which promises to be a big day for the club so we expect to see many of you down to catch up with old friends again.

Our 2nd XV have had a steady start with 3 wins and 3 losses and with Eric Scott continuing his post-match team-building sessions a great team spirit has once again been created, this in turn has given head coach Darran Brown quite a few selection headaches with a lot of 2s stepping up and making themselves available for the 1st XV and with more and more of The Spartans now eligible to play for the seniors the future is looking very good for The Greenies.

Writing of the future it brings me on nicely to the minis and juniors.... I had the privilege the weekend before last of seeing the under 14/15s play over at Ruislip and seal their first win of the season, it was a great game to watch. The under 6s-12s last week played over at Thatcham and had a very successful day.
The M&Js tour venue has now changed and we will be touring Bournemouth which is shaping up to be a great weekend. Anyone still wishing to attend please speak to Michele.

This Saturday 22nd November we are hosting a live music event with guest singers Martin Coyne and Siobhan along with our very own Terry Watkins. This is a fundraiser for both the M&Js tour and the Senior tour to Portugal, it would be brilliant to see many of you down to raise much needed funds for the respective tours.

We have enjoyed some great functions since my last roundup with the Octoberfest, Kids Halloween Party and of course the Fireworks Party, these events would not be a success without the support from yourselves along with the tremendous hard work by all the organisers and staff, please keep supporting these events which are always advertised on the website, starting with the Quiz night this Friday.

For those wishing to dust off their boots and roll back the years the O2 Touch Rugby is now underway hosted by our very own Darran Brown, it would be great to some familiar faces having a run around on a Wednesday evening, if you speak to Ben Harris (bi9ben@yahoo.co.uk) he will happily give you more details plus posters for you to put up at your workplaces. this is for both men and ladies.

As many of you may have seen I have been selling some Canterbury England kit at greatly reduced rates, this was kindly donated by O2 and organised by Colby Short. This has netted us in excess of £4000. This money is being used to pay towards a structural and soil survey which we desperately need to try suss out what we need to do to sort out the subsidence which is getting worse. Once this has been done we are looking to renovate the club in sections. I will keep you posted on the developments as they happen.

I can't think if anything else you might be interested in but if you have any questions regarding the club I'd be more than happy to try and answer them.

See you all soon

Matt
