On Sunday Slough Under 15s played in the Maidenhead tournament. This was a mixture of both local teams and some from as far afield as Wales.
Slough got off to a shaky start when they played Maidenhead’s A side which ended with a Slough defeat. This did not deter the Slough boys who were determined to show the improvements they have made over the past few seasons. In their next game and with a few tweaks to the team, and also bringing on Mikey Spandley at scrum half and newcomer Fred Agyekum on the wing, the team played with more intensity and passion to win the game by 21 to 7. The 3rd pool game against Newport was very physical and the team kept control of the game to win by 2 tries one of these by newcomer Fred Agyekum. The last pool game was against Egham who played well which encouraged Slough to dig deep with some excellent tackling and held on to win by 1 try. This meant Slough came second in the pool behind Maidenhead As and put Slough into the Plate competition with the final turning into a local derby against Drifters who got through on a points decision after coming joint 2nd in their pool with High Wycombe. The first half was very tense with neither team able to convert their hard work into tries, the second half saw Drifters denied a try when an energetic Chris Ashton type dive over the try-line meant the player failed to ground the ball, this cost them dearly when shortly after Slough went over for the only try of the match and secured the win.
