Some controversial official decisions made the young Green's battle that little harder and lost keeper Kane Munday
to a nasty head injury that left manager Chris Gibson
Following recent performances, Gibson freshened up his side, with the younger of the 2 Munday brothers, Kane making his Ridgeons debut. As well as the change in goal, Luke Sterna
, James Prewett
and Kurtis Mpundu
also came in as Gibson looked towards developing his side for next year.
On a heavy pitch, Soham started brightly and after good play from Mpundu, saw Jim Orvis
' deflected shot off a defender creep in at the near post.
But on 20 minutes, as Soham looked more dangerous, Andy Potter
was blatently pushed as he shepparded out a punt forward from Swaffham's defence. The ref played on, much to the anger and shock of both sides and the offending Swaffham player crossed for the striker to put home past a helpless Munday. Incensed by the poor officiating, Soham pressed with anger and on half time, Scott Davis
fired home from 25 yards to give Soham the lead at the break. Into the 2nd half and Soham's defensive unit from set pieces self destructed as firstly Swaffham equalised with a point blank header and then after Munday had spilled a cross, the Swaffham forward bundled the ball and Munday into the goal.
The harsh reality was, that although Munday had spilled the ball, he had looked to recover and the knock to his head he took ended his debut with serious concussion. Again, frustrations boiled over, as Jake Cotton
was booked for disputing the goal and Gibson was warned of his conduct by the linesman. But the Green's fought back and grabbed a deserved equaliser in the 70th minute, as Sterna ghosted in at the far post and volleyed home. Substitute Cameron Robb
just hit wide, then Sterna, Dwayne Cohen
and Mpundu almost grabbed a winner but there was no way past the Swaffham bus parked across the 18 yard box.
After the game, Gibson was unable to comment but assistant Andy Phillips was impressed by the battling performace by the young greens and the improvement made.
