On Friday, Soham had their first ground inspection as the club looks to move up to the non-league pyramid.

Representatives from the FA, Southern League, Eastern Counties League and United Counties League, joined Chairman Colin Murfitt and Secretary Karen Prewett on the inspection. As yet, the ground does not meet the required standards to go up, but the club has been given the information to what needs to be completed before the 31st March deadline. The barrier around the pitch needs to completely joined in all corners, although access is required for the emergency services to access the pitch. The telephone mast behind the goal (Car park end) needs to be sectioned off, so nobody can stand near it. The dugouts need to seat a minimum of eight people, and are currently at least a metre to small. As yet, the ground does not have any turnstyles. Although these have been purchased, they are not installed. Toilets, other than the ones in the Clubhouse, need to be installed within the ground for spectators. A section of the grandstand needs marking out for the committee of both the home and away side, as well as providing a working area for the press. Work also needs to be carried out on both the players and officials changing rooms. By the end of the 2008/09 season, the ground must also providing separate changing facilities for female officials. As well as other small jobs in and around the ground. Although the ground didnt meet the required standards as yet, the visiting officials made good comments about the playing surface, stating it was in excellent condition and well looked after, giving it a seven out of ten marking when comparing it to higher leagues. The club are looking to complete all the work required and have the ground inspected again, before the closing deadline. Needham Market, the Leagues other applicants, have already passed their ground inspection.
