Rangers allowed the hosts to dictate a slow opening period before going ahead on 20 minutes when Davis floated a cross behind the Hares defence and Sam Riches ghosted in to head past the keeper. Twice Soham opened up the home defence down the flank with Cook sending Sterna away and his surging run ended with a low drive well saved by the keeper, before Riches' close range shot was blocked by a last ditch slide. Rangers had a penalty appeal turned away when the home keeper appeared to upend Alexander when clean through. The hosts had to defend numerous corners at the end of the first half but Soham found the home keeper in fine form. On the stroke of halftime Chamberlain made his only real save of the first period diving at the foot of the post to turn away a fierce 20 yard drive. Soham looked to have more urgency in the second half and Davis hit the bar with a dipping shot and then the post with a header, before giving away a silly freekick 25 yards out, from which March equalised with a neat glancing header. Soham simply couldnt find the second goal; the best two chances of the final 20 minutes fell to Suttle who first fired into the side netting with the whole goal to aim at and then blazed Wingfield's cut back cross over. March hung on for a point despite a late flurry of corners the last of which saw Lightfoot head agonisingly just inches wide. A disappointing performance over the 90 minutes with the main plus points being the return as a first half substitute of Steve Sexton after a month's illness and good individual displays from Scott Lightfoot and Elliot Smart. Soham will have to improve their league displays in the second half of the season if they are to mount a serious title challenge.
