Soham Town Rangers U18s v Histon U18s Academy This Wednesday, 23rd February, sees Soham Town Rangers U18s and Histon U18s Academy go head to head in the semi finals of the Munns Youth Cup.

This will be the sixth time in five years these two rivals have met, with Soham losing in consecutive finals to the Stutes. Although not a full time academy or in a league close to Histons, Chris Gibsons Soham side will look to stand tall with the Conference big boys. The Greens manager this last week has been looking at ways his team could match Histon and have what it takes to reach the County Final. Although I respect Histon and their Academy status, I'm really starting to dislike them a tad, he joked. This dual in the last five years has seen us always cut them close but thats wearing thin with me now and I want to beat them. We have lost the last two finals in this competition to them and its been pretty heartbreaking when you see them lift the trophy and it seems they didnt really have much heart behind winning it. I know how much me and my lads would want to lift that trophy and thats what will drive us. Histon are a fantastic side, they really like to get the ball down and play, but so are we. We like to play football and compete. There is no reason why we cant have a good go at them. We have to respect them and of course, their status speaks for itself. But we have to turn up on the night and play for 90 minutes; demanding some respect of our own, otherwise there will be no contest! Gibsons injury ravened squad is already youthful, but he sees that as no disadvantage. If youre good enough, youre old enough, he said. Age means nothing, other than slight experience, but you dont get that without playing these big games! These lads will give it a good go and as long as they come off that pitch knowing they gave it there all, Ill be proud. Gibson is urging the home support to show themselves and give a boost to their chances. The first team has recently been picking up form and the Reserves have already made a cup final, but now Gibson wants to see the club as a whole rally round its Youth side. Its a big night at the club, so lets see some support for us all. We represent the club as a whole Wednesday and of course we want people to see what the future may hold for this club. Wednesday nights game is at Sohams Julius Martin Lane ground and kick off is 7:45pm. Admission fees are 2.50 for adults and 1.50 for concessions.
