Soham came close to another extratime drama in an exciting cup tie at Blue Square South Braintree.

Soham didnt find their form in the first half conceding a goal after 18 minutes when a throughball eluded Lightfoot and Burr, Amery slipped it past Chamberlain. Soham had their moments with Sterna's runs down the right and Davis overlapping on the left. Alexander had a headed chance from Cook's cross which was well saved and Davis' drive went inches wide. The usually reliable Greens' defence looked edgy and were constantly unsettled by the pacy Emmanuel. Six minutes before the break with Soham having more of the play Braintree struck again. Emmanuel outpaced Burr laying the ball off for Gosling to slide home. A change of tactics and personnel at halftime with a triple substitution saw Soham go on the attack but were undone almost immediately when Cole crossed from the right, Riches was caught out of position in an unfamiliar wingback role and Gosling made it 3-0. Gradually Soham clawed their way back into the game with Wingfield posing a constant threat. When Sterna fed Stevens, his run ended with a trip and Jordan Alexander scored from the spot. On 70 minutes Wingfield crossed from the left and Sam Riches fired home at the far post for 3-2. Soham threw everything into attack as Stevens volleyed over before Sterna's cutback gave Alexander a chance 10 yards out but he fired over. Braintree was always dangerous on the break and twice Chamberlain made fine stops. Despite constant pressure in the last ten minutes Soham couldnt find the equaliser and two minutes into injurytime Emmanuel was clearly offside when put through, but the flag stayed down and he was allowed to setup Harvey for 4-2. Sohams run in this cup is over despite a gallant fightback and a good team display in the second half with Wingfield and Sterna the pick of the Greens. Chamberlain, Cook (Norton), Burr, Lightfoot, Davis, Sterna, Smart, Fuller (Stevens), Suttle (Wingfield), Riches, Alexander
