Soham started out with an attacking 433 lineup with only two recognised defenders but were undone when the hosts changed from their usual 352 formation to 442 with two orthodox wingers. Soham could have been three down in the first 15 minutes but for Chamberlain making fine stops. The Greens switched to 451 but couldnt get to grips with St Neots first half performance making just one chance; Riches split the defence to play in Alexander but his shot was easily saved. With Suttle shackling Saints dangerman Murray, Soham were looking for halftime when a slick passing move sliced open the backline & Saints were 1-0 up four minutes before the break. Soham introduced defenders Burr & Davis for Cook & Carmen at the break & gradually gained the upper hand. On 50 minutes Saints failed to clear Fuller's corner & Sterna fired over from 15 yards out. On 70 minutes Davis made it 1-1 with a thunderous 25 yard freekick & as the minutes ticked away both teams became edgy creating few chances. Sheridan Stevens marked his return to the club as an extratime sub & it was his inch perfect pass that split the defence allowing Alexander to round Michelin to score from an angle seven minutes into extratime. Saints increased the effort with lots of balls into the Soham box but couldnt progress against the height of Burr & Sexton although it still needed Chamberlain to make several clearances. In the final minute Saints threw everything forward & Burr had to slide in to put Pink off six yards out with the striker mishitting his shot over the bar. Overall a gritty Greens display with excellent second half & extratime team discipline. Jamie Chamberlain was outstanding with Gareth Suttle & Elliot Smart also worthy of mention.
