Chatham Town are two points clear at the top of Ryman League Division One North after two early goals by Matt Newman, one a penalty, set Kevin Watson's men on course for a 4-0 home win over Cheshunt on Saturday.
Bertie Brayley’s 79th-minute goal gave Heybridge a 1-1 draw at home to Grays, who forfeited their 100 per cent record. So did neighbours Tilbury, held 2-2 at Sudbury for whom Richard Howell scored both. Joining the two Thurrock clubs on the seven-point mark are newcomers Leiston, now in second place after a 3-0 win over Ilford with all the goals coming in the first 34 minutes, and Waltham Abbey, 3-2 victors at Potters Bar with the help of an Ayrton Coley double. Just behind that group, with two wins apiece, are Waltham Forest and Harlow. Forest enjoyed a 3-1 home with over Needham Market, in which Josh Bonnett netted his fourth of the season, while Danny Brown’s penalty was all Harlow needed at Brentwood. Ware remain bottom of the table without a point, after going down to a 10th-minute Vinnie Durrrant goal for visiting Redbridge. By half-time Ware were down to nine men after the dismissals of Jon Stevenson and Dan Johnson, and Ben Andreos had missed the chance to equalise with a penalty. Stuart Blackburne scored twice in Enfield Town’s 4-0 home win over Maldon and there were two goals for Romford’s Nick Reynolds as his side were held to a 3-3 draw by Soham, for whom it was the second such result away from home this week. Great Wakering came from behind to beat Thamesmead 2-1. The late winner came from Nathan Dewberry.
