Soham U18's 2 Kings Lyn U18's 5 - Thurs 11/10/07
A terrible opening period gave Soham an uphill task against a Lynn side containing several County players.
3 minutes in Keeble lost possession & the ball was swept behind the home defence where Fitchett failed to clear giving the visitors a simple finish. Stevens 25 yard shot slipped out of the keepers hands & looked to cross the line but the officials were at the wrong angle to see clearly & waved play on. Immediately Lynn was given possession through careless play & Fitchett's rash tackle was adjudged to be a penalty; Fitchett was forced off injured to add to the problems. Soham rallied but on the half hour poor marking at a corner allowed a shot from the 18 yards to curl in. Rangers went 4 - 0 down failing to clear a cross with the ball driven in from the edge of the box. If Soham lacked concentration in the first half they produced a Jekel & Hyde display in the second. From a corner Miller's header was blocked with Roberts heading against the bar but Keeble drove in the rebound. Rutterford replaced Keeble on the hour & his passing began to open the Lynn defence. When Stevens clever turn produced a penalty for a trip, the striker took the kick for 4-2. Soham were on top & with Fuller & Rutterford pulling the strings Rangers went searching for a third goal. Several half chances were made before Rutterford split the Lynn line but Davis somehow fired wide. With 10 minutes left Soham threw defender Miller forward but the visitors broke away & grabbed a 5th with three minutes left. Soham need to produce the second half determination over a game to start picking up points. Disappointingly Jack Rutterford just back from injury left the field after 85 minutes with a shin injury & may miss the next two games. Best performances on the night were Fuller & Rutterford with Stevens not far behind. Chamberlain, Fitchett (Dan Miller), Roberts, Littlefair, Davis, Littlechild, Fuller, Riches, Keeble (Rutterford), Stevens, Dean Miller (Sobey) Unused: Mitchell, Carmen
